The primary mission of the Security Guard is to contribute to providing protection for the UN personnel and visitors, while in the UN House, and to protect the facilities and equipment of the UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes (AFP) located in the UN House, from damage or loss due to fire, violent attack, theft or any other threat. The Security Guard has to act as an early warning signal to the UN Designated Official and UN Security Adviser, and to cooperate with the National Security guards, provided by the government, on provision of necessary security measures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Security Guard will control access to the UN House, protect life, maintain order, resist attacks against the UN House, UN personnel and visitors, and resist any form of violent attacks against it. 2. Security Guard will maintain a high standard of professionalism while on duty. Security Guard will be polite and courteous in the performance of their duties. They will not use abusive language, be late for work, or be negligent. 3. Security Guard will not act in any manner detrimental to the reputation of the team of the United Nations. 4. Security Guard will be firm, yet courteous, efficient, and tactful at all times while in the performance of their duties. They will never engage in arguments with any person and will refer disagreements and misunderstandings on security matters to the UN Security Adviser. 5. Security Guard will continuously conduct non-routine inspections around the UN premises (inside and outside of the UN House and its territory), parking lot, different areas within the UN House and immediately report of any unusual incident or circumstances, or emergency situations to the UN Security Adviser. 6. Security Guard will intercept, identify and make the proper log entries for visitors to the UN House. 7. Security Guard will conduct inspection of all cars using undercarriage mirrors and visitors using metal detectors, and issue appropriate access control identification badges. 8. Security Guard must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the UN House emergency action plan (fire, intruder, bomb, etc). 9. Security Guard must timely respond to vital supply systems operations, i.e. Emergency Generators, Electricity Supply, Water-Supply/Water-Tanks, etc. Organization of basic training in emergency action response will be the responsibility of Security Adviser and Local Security Associate.

Zone of Responsibility:

The zone of responsibility of the Security Guard includes: The UN House and the UN premises within the boundaries of the delimitating fence and its vicinity on all sides vitally important for proper functioning of the UN Office. The Security Guard will perform other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the UN House.

Institutional Arrangement:

The Security Guard reports to the UNDP Operations Manager, under the overall guidance of the UN Security Adviser relating to security matters.

Required Skills and Experience:

Education:

  •  Secondary education is required.

Experience:

  •  Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of security, safety, and/or other related area.

Required skills:

  •  Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:

  •  Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team and process.
  •  Previous relevant work experience with International Organizations/Embassies is desirable.
  •  Experience in the use of radio communications systems is desirable.
  •  Ability to work on the night duty shifts.

Required Language(s):

  •  Fluency in Armenian. Good working knowledge of English.
